Log cabin homes have a great rustic look, with plenty of houses for sale that range from modular and manufactured to original, mobile, and more.

Going with log cabin homes when you’re looking to build your dream house is one of the best choices that you can make. Not only are they very sturdy, but they tend to be more environmentally friendly, and even better for your health when you’re living inside of one. Plus, nothing will look more beautiful, or allow your home to shine with the same great look. There are also a variety of different types of log cabin homes designs to choose from, so you’re guaranteed to find a layout that’s ideal for you, no matter what you’re looking for.

When it comes to log cabin homes, the first thing that you want to think about, is the type of construction that you would like for yours. You’ll find that there are multiple different styles, and the type that you choose can dictate just how sturdy your home will be in the end. The two most common types of construction are hand hewn, and chinked cabins, and they can give you vastly different styles. Hand hewn are one of the most stable types, and features logs that have been flattened to fit together tightly. They are attached at the corners, so that the house is very stable. Usually this gives the home a more modern look, and is guaranteed to be sturdy construction that lasts you a lifetime.

You’ll find that chinked log cabin homes are the type you’re more interested in when you’re looking to build a much more classic home. These are homes that feature logs that are kept in their original round shape, and that are also fastened together at the corners. They are much more authentic, and give your home a great natural look. They are not quite as sturdy however, as the logs don’t always fit together perfectly. Nothing will have your home looking more rustic and beautiful however. Plus you can still be assured that your home will be plenty strong throughout your lifetime.

Of course, you can also avoid the hassle of authentic log cabin homes completely by purchasing log siding instead. This is a special type of siding that actually consists of logs that have been cut in half. When placed on your home, it gives the appearance that your home is actually made from logs, and nobody will be able to tell the difference. This is a great cheaper, and more convenient method of changing where you already live, to meet your own personal standards better than you ever thought possible.

When you’re looking for any type of log cabin homes construction, you’re always going to want to go through a contractor of some sort. Usually you’ll have to get the wooden materials from a lumber yard, which will produce just what you need for a job like this. But you also want to have a trained professional on hand for all the major construction. This way you can ensure that your house is built correctly, and is on par with any other type of log cabin homes that have been built previously.

Log home construction is best achieved through pro builders, with many packages and plans for your consideration, in addition to design ideas.

Choosing the right type of log home construction is important, so that you can be sure your home has the look as well as sturdy construction that you want. The look of a home that’s made from real wooden logs is very important, as you want one that’s properly beautiful, so that you can capture that complete cabin aura like you’ve always wanted. Of course, that means it’s important to ensure that you pick the right method by which to build your own cabin. There are a variety of different ways in which you can capture that authentic wood home feel, so it’s really just a matter of choosing the right type of log home construction for you.

When you’re looking for the absolute most classic type of cabin that you can possibly build, there’s really no other choice but to go with a chinked log home construction. This is a special method by which logs that still feature their natural rounded shape are piled up in a square formation, and are connected at the corners, to make a sturdy and beautiful structure. Nothing else gives you that great classic look, and you’ll be amazed at just how much you really enjoy the look of your new structure. While this method can be more difficult to carry out, you’ll find that nothing gives you that same great look.

When you’re looking for more stability from your log home construction, you’re going to want to go with hand hewn construction instead. You’ll find that this is a much more sturdy method of construction, as it features logs that are flattened and treated so that they fit together perfectly. This is a more modern look to your house, and will allow you to create a much more sturdy structure that you can guarantee can hold up to any weather condition. Plus, hand hewn log home construction is usually easier to handle, and will ensure that you can put up your home in a much more easy and convenient way.

It’s also important to realize that log home construction is expensive, so it may not be the ideal investment to make with your new home. Instead, you may want to consider going with log siding, which enables you to convert your current home into that great log cabin style. Through log siding you’ll be actually attaching half logs to the side of your home, to create a uniform structure that looks just like an authentic cabin. Plus it will add stability as well as style to your home, not to mention value.

One of the best ways to ensure that your log home construction goes the right way, is to ensure that you have a contractor enlisted to help you build your cabin. This is important, so that you have a trained professional to ensure that everything is constructed properly. Also, you’ll want to get your log home construction supplies from a lumber yard, so that you can ensure that your supplies are as affordable as possible, so that you can build your home cost effectively.

Log homes for sale can be found in mountain settings, woods, and other areas in the form of cabins, houses, and even mobile homes.

Looking for log homes for sale is one of the best ways to ensure that you get that great dream cabin you’ve always wanted. So long as you know what to look for, you can find a fantastic log cabin for an affordable price. Of course there are a combination of different factors that you’re going to have to think about as well. But so long as you are patient, and willing to negotiate on a cabin that interests you, you’re bound to find the ideal home like you’ve dreamed of. All you have to do is plan out how you’re going to find the perfect log homes for sale in your area.

One of the most important factors to think about, is always going to be location. If you want a cabin by the beach, or on a lake, it’s always going to be more expensive than other types. While log homes for sale of this type are always more desirable, you’re going to have to pay an inflated price for the privilege. When it comes to any type of house on sale, location is the most important part of the type you’re looking to buy, and the better that cabin’s location, the more it’s going to cost you. For this reason, you may want to look for more rural alternatives, which can be a comfortable compromise that allows you to have the house you want, without having to pay too much.

Also, before looking for log homes for sale, you’re going to want to figure out a type that you actually want to buy, so that you know what you’re looking for. That means determining the type of log construction that you want your cabin to have. You’ll find that some types feature hand hewn construction, which means the logs are flatter and more squared off, to give a more uniform and sleek, yet natural look. But then you can also find rustic log cabins, that are constructed using more natural rounded logs, so that you can really capture the feel of an old style log home.

Also, it’s important to consider just how much you would like to invest in any log homes for sale that you find. Planning out your financial strategy beforehand is essential, so that you can ensure you know exactly what’s within your price range beforehand. That means you want to figure out what type of mortgage you can qualify for, so that you can see what sort of home is priced for you to purchase. Remember to find a mortgage that you can pay off quickly, so that you’ll actually own your home in a number of years, instead of decades. Otherwise you could end up with a home that you actually can’t afford, and that’s a recipe for financial disaster.

The best way to start looking for log homes for sale, is to go through a realtor in your area, so that you can get an idea of just what’s available currently. But you can also use online realtor resources, to find even more listings that may be available from different agencies. Through websites like LogHomeExchange.com you can find listings all over the country, for great log homes for sale.

Log siding for a cabin or home comes in many wood forms, including cedar and pine, or vinyl and steel for a faux wooden look.

Adding log siding can be a great way to turn literally any home into a cabin, with little to no effort on your part. Without even having to try, your home will take on a much more natural and beautiful look, and you’ll be absolutely amazed at the results. All you have to do is choose the right type of material. You’ll find that log siding can come in a variety of different material types, as well as styles, so it’s important to choose the right type for your home. There are several different positives and negatives you’ll want to consider before settling on a final option, just so that you can ensure you pick out the right type for your home.

When it comes to selecting the ideal log siding, the first thing you need to think about is the type of material that you want to choose. You’ll find that there will be both authentic wood, as well as vinyl siding options. When it comes to the quickest and easiest method by which you can turn any home into a log cabin, vinyl siding is always going to be the best decision. This is because vinyl siding is lightweight, easy to deal with, and very easy to install as well as move from place to place. That means you’ll be able to have your home covered in no time at all.

However, when you have to have that authentic look, you’ll find that this type of log siding just won’t do, and you need something a little more high quality, to really have your home looking fantastic. For this reason, you want to go with half log siding. This will mean actually installing real wood onto the outside of your home, to give off that much more authentic cabin feel. This way, you’re using actual cabin materials to make your home look fantastic. That means you’ll get that authentic wood look and feel that vinyl just can’t offer. However, materials will be much more expensive, as well as much more difficult to deal with because of their size.

When it comes to vinyl siding however, you’ll run into problems simply because it does not look authentic. While from a distance your log siding will look realistic, up close you’ll be able to notice that it’s only replica wood. However, it will wear the years better than authentic wood, and that’s the only problem with using an authentic material. Over time, wood can wear down when faced with extreme weather conditions. For that reason, your home will require constant maintenance so that you can ensure it is properly protected from the elements, otherwise your log siding can break down.

When you’re looking to buy the perfect type of log siding, there are a variety of resource that can be helpful to you. Usually you can find at least a few alternatives through stores like Home Depot or Ace Hardware where this type of material is often sold or ordered. Although usually for authentic wooden log siding, you’re usually going to want to go through a lumber yard, for the best possible materials.

A log splitter pump gives your wood hydraulic action, acting as an effective cutter for your needs.

The right log splitter pump is necessary hardware when you have a lot of logs to slice in a short amount of time. Without the right type of pump, you can’t cut through the logs mechanically, and you’ll have to resort to other means, like manual. Choosing the right type of log splitter pump is really a matter of matching the type that you need to the splitting device you’ll be using. But you also need to ensure that your pump is powerful enough to handle the wood that you’ll be cutting. Without ensuring both of those needs are met, you just won’t be able to get the job done, and that means a lot more work on your part.

The way that any given log splitter pump is designed to work, is by using a special method that allows them to put pressure on a log, to slowly but effectively split them. This way, you can essentially chop wood without having to chop it yourself. This means you can cut more wood probably more quickly. But what’s more, this is a great way to ensure that you don’t throw out your back, or pull a muscle while you’re trying to get your log cutting done. All you have to do is find the right type of log splitter pump for the type of chopping that you need to do.

The most important part of picking out the ideal log splitter pump, is ensuring that it is meant for the type of machine that you’ll be using. You’ll find that some pumps use hydraulics, while others make use of gas engines or electrical engines in order to work. The pumps are not interchangeable, so it’s important to know which type you need beforehand, so that you can ensure it will work with your machine. This is important, especially if you want to be able to get your work done in a timely fashion. So be sure to figure which type of log splitter pump you need beforehand, to make the project flow much more smoothly.

It’s also important to choose a log splitter pump that’s perfect for the type of wood that you’ll be cutting. You’ll find that some types are better for different wood thicknesses, or different types of cutting. You want to find a pump that matches up perfectly with the type of work that you’ll be doing. This is important, so that you can ensure your pump is capable of keeping up with the workload. But what’s more, ensuring you have a strong enough log splitter pump is important, just so that you can guarantee that you’re able to even cut the wood at all.

Finding the ideal log splitter pump isn’t always easy, as they can be fairly uncommon items. That means you may want to think about buying yours online, where you’ll have many more resources. For example, a website like NorthernTool.com can be a fantastic industrial resource. But you can also find great models through a site like eBay.com where you can find results from all over the country. This ensures you find just the log splitter pump you need, at a price you can afford.

A hydraulic log splitter uses a pump to make wood cutting automatic.

Chopping wood is very hard work, and requires an awful lot of effort on your part. This is a daunting task that usually involves using an axe, or ram to physically cut through a log using a massive force provided by you. But that’s where a hydraulic log splitter will come in extremely handy. This tool uses hydraulic pressure to slowly shove a ram through a log, without manual effort on your part. In fact the only physical work that using a hydraulic wood splitter entails is working the lever to control the pump’s pressure, and picking up logs once they’re split.

A hydraulic log splitter is a great tool if you have a lot of work to do, or just massive logs that need to be split. There are two main types of hydraulic operated machines, and which you choose has a big impact on how well your log splitter will work for you. Typically the two types of splitters are horizontal loaders and vertical loaders. Determining which type is best for you is as simple as deciding which conforms to your wood splitting preferences.

A vertical loader refers to the way that this hydraulic log splitter actually holds a log during the splitting process. Vertical loaders stand on the ground vertically, and you place a log into the base about the same way you would if you were going to use an axe. Then you can slowly lower the maul with the use of a lever that’s attached to the hydraulic pump. This can be a slow process depending upon the size of the log, but with each press of the level the ram will move through the log until it has been completely split. After that both halves will fall out of the machine, and you can release the pump back into the starting position for the next log.

With a horizontal loader the principles are the same, except that this type will lay flat on the ground. You’ll have to place the log on it’s side in the base of the hydraulic log splitter. Sometimes horizontal loaders also require the use of your free hand to hold the log in place until the ram begins splitting the wood. This can be a slight annoyance, but you shouldn’t have any more trouble using a horizontal unit, than a vertical model. The only common complaint of hydraulic log splitters, is that they aren’t as fast as gasoline, or electric versions. So if you have a lot of splitting to do, hydraulic may not be the best choice.

For purchasing a hydraulic log splitter, you can go to a local hardware store like Lowes or Ace Hardware. The average model will range from a few hundred dollars, to well into the thousands. Make sure you get a model with plenty of power, usually 10 tons and up is a good model to follow. You’ll never need that much pressure, but it’s good to have to ensure that you’ll be able to easily cut through any log.

An electric log splitter makes cutting wood automatic and easy.

An electric log splitter is one of the best ways to easily cut through a lot of wood in a short amount of time. The problem with manual axes and mauls is that they require a massive amount of physical effort on your part. Depending upon your age and your body condition, this can really take a massive toll on your fitness. The electric log splitter is a great alternative to aching back muscles, and is much more environmentally friendly than gas powered alternatives.

Another advantage that an electric log splitter has over gas powered models, is that they are far, far cheaper in price. The average electric model will cost you in the area around $200 for a good machine, and upwards of $500 for an extravagant one. In contrast, gas powered splitters cost into the thousands in most cases. Also on average, but depending upon where you live, gas is more expensive than electricity. That means a gas powered splitter is also much more expensive to run than an electrical model. Plus electric log splitters are far better for the environment, and don’t release the same toxins into the air as burning gas does.

Although a major negative of electric versus gas, is that a gas powered log splitter is much more effective and quicker for the big jobs. A gas model is also much more powerful than you average electrical model, making them ideal for big outdoor jobs. Electric log splitters are more intended for smaller jobs like home use, and will serve you best there. But electric versions will still get the job done quickly and easily, and with little effort on your part. That’s always a positive.

The biggest decision before you is whether to choose a vertical loading electric log splitter, or horizontal. Vertical loaders stand end to end, with the pump and wood ram towards the top, and a base where you place the logs on the bottom. Vertical loaders are more portable, and lend themselves to various conditions best. Horizontal electric log splitters tend to me much larger and more expensive. Although they can also be more powerful, horizontal splitters can be less convenient than vertical loaders. The average horizontal model will take more effort on your part to control the log, and make sure that the ram split’s the log properly. Whereas vertical loaders are usually much faster.

When you’re looking to purchase an electric log splitter, you can go to a local hardware store like Home Depot, or find a local dealer by using a search engine like Bing. But to find cheaper and more competitive prices, you can find a wide variety of electric styles on the internet. Major stores like NorthernTool.com are good places to start, and offer a wide selection of vertical and horizontal loading electric log splitters. But be sure that any online store has a user guarantee so that you can return your model if it doesn’t meet your standards. Otherwise you’ll be stuck with a splitter that doesn’t get the job done.

A manual log splitter cuts wood through the use of a hydraulic pump.

Manual log splitters are fantastic alternatives to using electricity, or gas to chop your wood. Unlike either, a manual wood splitter uses only a hydraulic pump that you control manually, to slowly push a ram through a log. This requires minimal effort on your part, and is very beneficial to the environment. A manual log splitter is the best way to chop a lot of wood, without a large amount of physical effort on your part. Plus you’ll be using a method that’s infinitely better for the environment.

Typically a manual log splitter uses a hydraulic pump that you operate with the use of a lever, in order to slowly move a ram through a piece of wood. This is an effective way to split logs in order to use them as fire wood. A manual splitter does require more effort than an electric or gas alternative however. To push the lever back and forth does require quite a bit of effort, and the ram moves fairly slowly so this isn’t a good alternative for chopping large amounts of wood. But it will get the job done, and will do so without relying too much on your back muscles.

Unlike other log splitters that have vertical and horizontal models, a manual log splitter can be used in either position. Most models are made to easily fold onto the ground, or stand vertically during operation. But for practicality, most units are manufactured to sit on the ground to make lever use as easy as possible. Also, if pulling and pushing a lever involves too much of your upper body for whatever reason, there are also models that have pedals that you can operate using your feet. That makes this a much better machine to use than just a simple ax, and doesn’t use up any irreplaceable fossil fuels in order to operate.

Although it’s fair to say that you’d be better off with a gas or electric model if you have a lot of wood to chop fairly often. Both gas and electric log splitters are faster, and can put out more pressure than a manual version. Gas is the most powerful, but most expensive. Electric is cheaper, and has the benefit of not requiring expensive gas in order to work. But electric also doesn’t put out as much power as a gas splitter, and usually isn’t quite as quick at splitting wood. Manual log splitters remain the cheapest on average however, usually rounding out at $100-$200.

When you’re looking to purchase a manual log splitter, the best place to go is a store that specializes in outdoor appliances. Outlets like Sears are a good place to start, and should have a few options at reasonable prices. But if you can’t find anything locally, you can also try using an online web store. NorthernTool.com and even Amazon.com are good places to try. Plus a manual log splitter ordered online tends to be cheaper than marked up models that are sold in a local store.

A used wood splitter is a cheap means of acquiring an electric or manual log splitter.

A log splitter is a great way to cut a lot of wood quickly, and without too much physical effort on your part. The problem with using an ax or a maul is that it takes a massive amount of energy in order to complete. You’ll have achy muscles and an aching back after a day of chopping, and a log splitter will really help you eliminate that. But big powerful machines like this can be very expensive, and aren’t always in the budget for the average person. That’s why you should strongly consider buying a used wood splitter.

But before you go shopping, you should try and get a good idea of which type applies to you best. Each wood splitter has certain advantages and disadvantages in terms of price and user convenience. The three major types of log splitters are manual, electric, and gas operated. Manual log splitters make use of a hydraulic pump that slowly forces a metal ram through a log held at the unit’s base. These still require a good amount of effort on your part, but much less than an ax. But manual splitters also take the longest, and aren’t ideal for big jobs.

An electric used wood splitter will work much faster and easier than a manual model however. Electric splitters automatically force the metal ram through a wooden log. These are faster than manual splitters, and are ideal for almost any home job. Electric will take longer than an ax still, but is much easier on your body. However they don’t offer as much power as a gas splitter, but are much better for the environment, and that’s always a huge plus.

A gas powered used wood splitter is the most heavy duty type, and is ideal for the biggest jobs. But even the used models will be much more expensive than a new electric or manual splitter. Gas type splitters are ideal for the biggest jobs possible, and are favorites for commercial wood chopping. This type is really only recommended if you have a massive amount of wood to chop, as they are very expensive. Also gas is harsh on the environment, and much more costly than electricity to use.

To actually purchase a used wood splitter, the best place to go is the internet. That’s where you’ll find the widest variety of splitters for the cheapest price. Websites like eBay.com and Amazon.com are good places to start your search, as both have a wide variety of used wood splitters at a wide variety of prices. You can also use your local paper’s classified ads to see if there are any used models available. Sometimes a big chain like Sears or Home Depot will have a few options, but this is rare.

Always make sure that any used model you buy has some sort of trial period however. That way you can make sure your used wood splitter still works as it’s supposed to, and will stand up to your planned uses. Otherwise you can end up with a used wood splitter that doesn’t meet your standards.

A skid steer log splitter is one of the best devices in the world of wood cutters.

Imagine if you could quickly and easily chop all of the logs on your wood pile without spending hours using an ax to perform back breaking work, wouldn’t that be worth an investment? A skid steer log splitter can do just that and is an ideal way to quickly and easily chop wood with minimal effort on your part. Unlike standard gas or even electrical log splitters, a skid steer model is made to attach to a piece of construction equipment like a Bobcat. Once attached, a you can automatically chop logs by using a lever, or the Bobcat itself to control the skid steer system to automatically split even the largest logs.

These are ideal for major outdoor jobs with logging companies, or if you have a massive amount of property that needs to be tended. Skid steer log splitters require less effort than either gas or electric models, and also perform the job about twice as quickly. Plus skid steer models handle the logs that a smaller splitter can’t. When attached to a Bobcat, this type of splitter can tackle even the largest logs without a problem. They even come with attachments to automatically split a log into four even pieces.

The only real downside is price. A skid steer log splitter attachment itself costs $600 and up. That’s not factoring in the price of a Bobcat if you don’t currently own one, which can go as high as $15,000. So if you’re not willing to make the investment of purchasing a Bobcat, this probably isn’t an ideal wood chopper. If you don’t have the big jobs required of a skid steer log splitter, it’s best to stick to smaller gas or electrical log splitters.

Another downside is that you have to be properly trained in a skid steer log splitter’s operation. Because a Bobcat requires special training, the same applies to such a large wood chopper. Otherwise you run the risk of injuring yourself, or somebody around you. Also you could damage your equipment, or your Bobcat, and repairing either can be very expensive. But if you have massive jobs that require the 20-30 tons of pressure that a skid steer splitter can apply, this is an ideal option. Just remember it’s a huge time and money investment, so weigh the pros with the cons. Make sure you’re ready for what this really entails, before purchasing a chopper that’s too advanced for your plans.

If a skid steer log splitter seems like the right addition to the jobs you have in mind, then you’ll need to know where to buy one. The best places are hardware stores, which are bound to have a few options available, or the means to order the equipment for you. Home Depot is a good place to start, but their prices can be marked up depending upon the area in which you live. To avoid this you can also order a skid steer log splitter online. The best place to do that would be LogSplittersDirect.com. They have a wide variety of splitters at industry prices, so you can find the tool you need on the budget you can afford.
